I’m an editor/staff reporter at Truthout, and have been covering social justice issues since 2009.
Before I came to Truthout I was a contract editor/environmental reporter at Generation Progress, an editorial intern at In These Times magazine and co-host of a Dallas-based progressive talk radio program.
My work has also appeared in several other publications, including The Nation, The Texas Observer, YES! Magazine, Z Magazine, AlterNet and Earth Island Journal, as well as in Truthout‘s first anthology on police violence, Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect?, published by Haymarket Books in 2016.
I currently reside in Denton, where I graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas with Bachelors’ degrees in journalism and political science. With my partner, I’m writing/producing our forthcoming feature-length documentary, Don’t Frack With Denton, which chronicles how our hometown became the first city to ban fracking in Texas, and its subsequent overturn in the state legislature. I was honored to receive the Dallas Peace and Justice Center’s “Media Peacemaker of the Year” award in December of 2016.
I research, report and write on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I can be reached at Candice@truthout.org, or securely at CandiceQuestions@protonmail.com, for story tips.
